Paper sketch description: In this exercise you will learn about others’ experiences and maybe have a change of heart if you are a jazz hater. You will create a beautiful work of art with your group.

Required tools: paper 8.5 by 11 or larger, black and colorful markers, colored crayons, straight edge

Participants: 2+, the bigger the paper the more participants

Time: as long as it takes to fill the page


Paper sketch instructions:

if (you like jazz or you have been to a jazz concert or you play a jazz instrument)

then {write 3 sentences about your connection to jazz with any colored marker and draw filled in musical notes with black marker}

and

if (you do not like jazz and you have never been to a jazz concert and you do not play a jazz instrument)

then {decide where the other participants’ sentences will go and make large squares with warm colored crayons and do not fill them in and use a straight edge}

and

if ((no one likes jazz or has been to a jazz concert or plays a jazz instrument) or (everyone likes jazz or has been to a jazz concert or plays a jazz instrument))

then {have the oldest player take the “square” role and everyone else take the other role}

and

if (you participated in this exercise)

then {discuss your thoughts and experiences surrounding jazz}
