Signs in Sequence

Kurbaan Lehal

Input: Street Signs | Action: Driving | Compositional: Repetition

If we use street signs, then we design a road scene by repeating signs along both sides of the road to create a pattern of repetition.

Required Tools: Pencil/Pen, 8.5” x 11” paper

Tools: Coloring materials (markers or colored pencils)

Participants: 2

Estimated Time: 20 minutes

Instructions

  1. If you draw a road, then you may choose to make it straight or curved across the page.
  2. If the road is complete, then add a broken line down the center to divide the lanes and guide the composition.
  3. If the lines on the road are drawn, then Person 1 starts drawing street signs (stop, yield, exit, etc.) along the left side of the road at equal intervals.
  4. If the signs are drawn on the left side of the paper, then Person 2 draws matching signs at the same spots on the right side of the road to reinforce the repetitive pattern.
  5. If the scene looks balanced, then add arrows and cars on the road to suggest motion, and feel free to draw any additional scenery (trees, clouds, buildings, etc.) to create a livelier vision.
