Description
This exercise translates emotions into layered marks of different line weights and patterns. Participants use their assigned emotions and colors to create a textured field of lines and colors across the page that represent their respective chosen emotions.
-
if (the group is ready to begin) {each participant chooses one emotion (calm, joy, anger, sadness, excitement, etc.) and assigns a color to that emotion.} Half of the group chooses positive emotions and half chooses negative emotions. Each participant must have a unique emotion and color.
-
if (everyone has their emotion and color) {place the paper on a flat surface, such as a table or the floor.}
-
if (the paper is in place) {set a timer for 5 minutes.}
-
if (the timer is set) {the first participant picks up their drawing utensil and prepares to draw a line.}
-
if (a participant’s chosen emotion is negative - sad, angry, anxious, nervous, etc.) {the line they draw must be made while another participant is shaking or moving the paper.}
-
if (a participant’s chosen emotion is positive - happy, joyful, excited) {the line they draw must be made smoothly with a steady hand.}
-
if (the timer has not gone off) {participants keep taking turns marking the paper according to their emotions.} if (the 5-minute timer goes off) {everyone stops drawing.}
